CLIMATE CHANGE CONFERENCE AT SKOPJE ON 03-05 FEBRUARY 2017

THIRD CLIMATE CHANGE CONFERENCE

THIRD INTERNATIONAL CLIMATE CHANGE CONFERENCE

USAID’s Municipal Climate Change Strategies Project (MCCSP) implemented by Milieukontakt Macedonia is pleased to announce the Third International Climate Change Conference that will take place at the premises of FON University in Skopje, from 3-5 February, 2017.

ABOUT CONFERENCE

Goal

More than 150 participants, including national and international experts, decision-makers, CSOs from the country and the region, scientists and practitioners in the field of climate change adaptation and mitigation, experts on sustainable development and representatives from the private sector came together to agree a collective way forward on how to tackle climate change at the Third International Climate Change Conference in Skopje.

The three-day Conference (Feb. 3-5), facilitated discussions on critical issues related to climate change, encouraged the decision-making processes to include discussions on climate change in local level development planning, and generated new ways to advance urban resilience.

Participants established regional links for cooperation on joint activities to advance climate resilience in the country and the region.

In recognition of the importance of academia in climate change, this year’s conference, in cooperation with the FON University, incorporated the role of science in the climate change debate, by debate academic findings on climate change and their practical application.

In addition, this conference marked the accomplishment of the USAID MCCS Project. Beginning in 2012, the project took a proactive approach to climate adaptation that prioritizes strategies according to local needs. It worked together with local governments, citizens and civil society organizations to devise effective, home-grown, locally-owned strategies to lower emissions and promote adaptation.
